Hack them
before they hack you.

Your hideout in a city of neon and unfamiliar networks. Crack other players’ codes, steal unsecured income and risk your equipment. Find your way as a Hacker, Fixer or Medic — alone or with your syndicate.

Runs in the browser, no download, free. Open beta: sign up right away, no code needed.

Hacking, not just clicking

Four mechanics where you have to think. They are a game, not instructions: you won't learn real attack techniques here. Trace is the track your hacking leaves behind. If it is too high, you can't attack again until you have wiped it.

Hacker tools: what you can do in the game

Breach

Decode a code of 4 symbols in 8 tries. After every try the server tells you which symbols are right and which are in the right place. A win makes you briefly stronger in attack or defense.

Port scan

A grid of 6 by 6 cells with 6 honeypots hidden in it. Every cell you open shows how many traps lie right next to it. A honeypot costs you trace.

Network scan

Shows you before an attack what a raid on this target would really bring in. It costs credits and a little trace.

Honeypot

You set a trap in your own system. The first attacker who walks into it gets extra trace.

Your first hack

Runs in your browser only. In the game the server holds the secret.

How the game works

The principle

Real stakes

A raid is a hack: you crack your target's code in 3 to 7 guesses. How many you get depends on your attack and their defense. If you succeed, you take 30 % of your target's open income: what it has produced and not secured yet, above its vault. Its balance is safe. Game actions and “Secure income” bank your income. An open browser tab alone does not protect it. If you fail, 15 % of your own balance above your vault burns, at most 300 C.

On revenge an equipped item can change hands. If your raid fails, one of your equipped items can be destroyed. Items in storage are safe.

Even offline

Others can attack you while you're away. After a hit a shield protects you for 12 hours. New players are protected for 24 hours.

In the raid feed of the Neon Bar anyone can see who hit whom. If you take revenge, you get more loot.

Your role in the city

Hackers strengthen their attacks. Fixers get more from loot and held buildings. Medics protect themselves with better defense. Choose your profession and spend talent points in the game.

There is no real money, and there is no payout either.

A city that lives

The city keeps running while you are away. This is what happens there:

The same city by day: the crosses on the plaza are signal caches, white flags mark free districts.
The same city by day. The crosses on the plaza are signal caches.
  • Day and night. A game day lasts 2 hours. Every hour the weather changes between clear, rain, fog and data storm. Both change only the picture, not any values.
  • Events. Every 6 hours an event can run, for example a dark phase, a loot run or a power failure. They really change the raid calculation.
  • Signal caches. Every hour 3 data packets lie on the plaza in the middle. Whoever gets there first takes the reward.
  • Police raid. If there are 20 raids or more in an hour, every further raid leaves more trace. So the city reacts to how much fighting there is.
  • Chat. You can write to everyone or only to your syndicate. Your message shows up as a speech bubble above your figure.
  • Buildings of the city. Clinic, pawn shop and data center belong to the city at first. You can take them over and collect their yield. Others can take them from you again.

Syndicates and districts

A syndicate is a group of players. With at least 3 members you can besiege a district of the city. A siege lasts 30 minutes. Both sides attack the district's firewall. Every hit is a code hack of 90 seconds, your strength sets the number of guesses.

Whoever holds a district gives all members of their syndicate 250 C more vault. No money is created. The bonus only protects what you already have.

You get a warning when someone attacks your district. Wins and losses show up in the news on the phone in the game.

The districts of the city: flags and tint show the holders, a district on the right side is being besieged. The panel lists all districts.

Your path

The progress window over the city: level and experience, the choice between the professions Hacker, Fixer and Medic, below it the daily missions.
The progress window: level, profession and missions.
  • Professions. You can become a Hacker, a Fixer or a Medic. Each profession gives you small, fixed bonuses. Switching costs credits.
  • Talents. The talent tree has three branches: attack, defense and economy. You can't learn everything, so you have to choose.
  • Missions. There are three missions every day. More come from the people in the buildings of the city. Your syndicate has a weekly goal.
  • Your look. You put together skin, hair, glasses and mask yourself. That is how the others see you in the city.
